Carlisle responds to working house fire with firefighter injuries

Structural Fire 4300 Block McColley Road Milford

At 11:27 pm Thursday, February 7th the Carlisle Fire Company of Milford was alerted to a structural fire at 4341 McColley Road east of Milford. Command 42 with Assistant Chief, Charles Vanaman was the first unit on scene reporting fire showing from the single-family dwelling. As units from Carlisle were responding additional assistance from Ellendale and Memorial Fire Company of Slaughter Beach was requested for additional water since there was no immediate hydrants in the area. Two firefighters from Carlisle were injured and taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Sussex Campus Hospital in Milford for treatment of their injuries. One firefighter was treated and released while the second firefighter was admitted for observation as a result of both men came in contact with a fallen power line from the dwelling. In addition to Ellendale and Memorial Fire Companies assisting at the scene Houston Fire Company stood by for Carlisle. The time in service was approximately 3 hours and the incident is currently under investigation by the Office of the Delaware State Fire Marshal.
